Admit it; you are sometimes not providing enough attention to bicycle riders when you’re cruising in your car. It may be that you’re tired, having to deal with less disciplined drivers, or, you can’t simply see these guys rolling on two wheels. Lumos is here to solve the problem, by adding automobile-like features into a basic bicycle helmet.

Lumos starts from the design of a safety helmet and then adds features making you more visible into traffic, especially at night. A set of integrated lights are implemented on the helmet, allowing you to signal before turning left or right. This is possible with help from a wireless transmitter which can be attached anywhere you seem fit, on your handlebars. Just press the corresponding button and a arrow on the helmet will start to blink, informing those from incoming traffic as well as those behind you that you are about to take a turn. Along with on-demand signal lights, Lumos also features a lighting system designed to attract attention from unaware drivers. A red triangle on the back and a white pulsating light on the front of the helmet are placed strategically for maximum visibility.

That’s not all, however. Lumos comes with an integrated accelerometer which detects when you are slowing down and activates a set of braking lights placed in the back of your helmet, beside the flashing triangle we mentioned earlier. It’s a great way to automatically signal cars behind you that you are slowing down, avoiding unwanted crashes. Lumos is made from weather-resistant materials and features an integrated rechargeable battery. A daily half-an-hour charge will allow the helmet to function for a full week.
